'Klezmer in the Park' Sunday 5 September 2010
1.00pm to 5.00pm

Regent's Park Bandstand

Back by popular demand is the Jewish music event in Regent's Park mounted by the Jewish Music Institute and the Jewish News Group for the Jewish Culture Forum JCUK. All Londoners are invited to picnic and enjoy the inspiring and joyful music and activities presented by a number of Jewish culture providers.

‘Klezmer’ is the name given to vibrant and soulful music played for Jewish weddings and parties across large swathes of Eastern Europe in times past. It is enjoying a world-wide revival and is now one of the most popular genres in world music, reaching well beyond its Jewish origins. More about ‘what is klezmer’.
Britain’s Leading klezmer bands
DJ, Broadcaster and Festival curator, Max Reinhardt, will be the Master of Ceremonies and present some exciting new and some firm favourites among Britain’s klezmer bands. See the exhibition of Jewish life in Britain, and buy Jewish artefacts and CDs.  Join in the line and circle dancing in a fun day out for all the family. Kosher food will be on sale. Have a picnic and enjoy special acts including ‘Klezmer has Talent’ and Klezmer on Stilts! There will also be an Children’s activities and displays by many Jewish cultural organisations.

The Mayor of London is again joining with a wide range of Jewish organisations and with the Royal Parks, to present London’s largest public celebration of British Jewish Musical Culture – connecting London’s diverse Jewish communities to the life of this great multi-cultural city.

“Its great to see ‘Klezmer in the Park’ as a sequel to ‘Simcha on the Square’ being staged again this year”. London Assembly Member, Nicky Gavron
