Now this is a drawing which comes from way, way back when I had completed my foundational access course and was applying for the fine art degree course at Plymouth University. This old drawing is from the portfolio I carried around to interviews. It's based on a Man Ray photograph of Nusch Éluard and Sonia Mosse.
Below the drawing is a copy of the original Man Ray photograph.

It's been a long time since I put actual physical brush to actual physical canvas. Main reason being that I've had to work in totally exhausting manual labour type jobs for the past few years and was left so exhausted at the end of each day I could barely summon the energy to sit at the computer and do the digital work, let alone go out with a sketch pad or mix paint etc.
I'm not a lazy person but after cycling to work and then doing a physical day for eight and a half hours and then cycling home I've had to struggle to find the energy to even make the little videos and soundart pieces displayed at my various web locations.
Anyhoo, I've decided to show the world what they're missing by putting up some photos of the paintings I was working on about three years ago and older. I'm hoping to get back to real painting and drawing soon. In the meantime, here's some photos:

WAXWEB
Years ago, in the 1990s, I was at art school doing a BA hons in fine art and specialising in electronic forms of art. We had early digital cameras and analogue camcorders. We had Apple Macs and literally several megabytes of disc space for the rendered product of our genius (really). In 1995 I got onto the web for the first time and enjoyed 5 straight hours of exploration before the technicians threw me out as they were closing up for the night. I was caught up in the silky strands of the web from then on.
One of the websites which fascinated me as I stumbled across it way back in 1995 was David Blair's WAXWEB. A hypertext, interactive, movie journey web experience beginning with "In early 1914, a Spiritualist cinematographer from the Supernormal Picture Society of London joined the Royal Expedition to the Antarctic." with sub sections like:
"Wax or the Discovery of Television Among the Bees" and:
"The Telepathic Motion Picture of 'THE LOST TRIBES' "
After all these years WAXWEB is still one of the most fascinating artworks online. If you haven't explored it yet, find WAXWEB at: http://www2.iath.virginia.edu/wax/

0 commentsRumours about me
I've lived in this city for nearly 18 years and during that time there have been continual rumours about me. Not malicious rumours, just rumours. I don't understand the motive behind the gossip. There never seems to be any attempt to ruin my reputation with serious dirt, but the rumours have continued over the years and I'm still puzzled as to who may be the source of the disinformation.
The stories all seem to fall into the category of harmless inaccuracy.
People will come up to me and attempt to engage me in conversation and then drop some words along the lines of: 'Well, I know you're into heavy metal', or 'Well, I know you like Chelsea soccer team (or Liverpool, or Exeter, or Manchester, or Arsenal, or Spurs, etc. The versions vary). Sometimes the person will attribute to me some political philosophy such as 'Well, I know you're an anarchist' or 'Well, I know you're a pacifist' or 'Well, I know you're a communist' or 'Well, I know you're a christian' etc. etc. Sometimes the false information concerns a personal habit or the lack of one, such as 'I know you smoke' or 'I know you like Stella Artois' or 'I know you're a big coffee drinker' etc. (All wrong wrong wrong).
Now, for the record, I'm not a christian, or a pacifist, or a communist, or an anarchist. I don't drink alcohol, I don't smoke, I don't take drugs. I can't drink coffee (allergy). I have never had the slightest interest in sport of any description and I certainly don't support this, that or the other soccer team or cricket team or whatever. I don't wear baseball caps (I was once told 'I thought you usually wore a baseball cap' when, in reality, I despise that particular form of headgear with an extreme and malevolent passion).
I could go on and on about this, but you get the idea. I've never driven a car in my entire life but people insist on telling me which brand of car they assumed I would usually drive, and so on and so forth.
I imagine there's either, sitting in a room somewhere, a very sad little old person who has nothing better to do than make up false information about me and then phone everybody in town to spread the fake facts, or else there's a shady government department which builds dossiers on everyone but gets the facts all wrong (at least in my particular folder).
I don't know what the real story is and where all these rumours are started from. As I say, they don't seem to be malicious, just inaccurate.
