William Burroughs - Secret Message

I turned on automatic captions for this video. The idea is that a computer algorithm listens to William Burroughs' words and generates the text below the video image. In this case the automatic text says: "well seals I'm not asking if I had the words of advice for you and me visual symbol admonitions he never remembers a run for and there are five or is this a lot of long hello israel's taste as a moral went into the job hillary rodham clinton's normal relations five oh and here is in writing status four and what she had not on the and have a vacuum advan exposed to someone's back do as there is a lost dog for a class mom aborted press political action committees are listening last year there were a van designed last year andrew and system seymour desert regards extra the ceremony home hello there slowly tuesdays and then there is also a state police say oregon land lauren progress yellow melvin everything there words and then they will do that homes in the face that throwing themselves at everyone of the night england villa louis venue miller toned romance for me danielle rivera said division in the media as above the moon's kit hedonism very warm transformed and everybody denise brown parallels there is last november and i'm sorry" Try it yourself. Start the video and click on "CC" in the bottom righthand corner of the screen to switch on automatic captions.

Update on the Internet Archive distribution

OK I've uploaded new EPUB and MOBI and RTF formats which are an improvement over what was auto-derived by the Internet Archive. I've also deleted some other, slightly rubbish, formats.

I Recommend the PDF

After reviewing what the Internet Archive rendering process has done to my book I  have to say I recommend viewing the PDF version. The other versions are all a bit rubbish. The Full text version is falling off of the edge of the page and the EPUB version has lost the first page. I'll see what I can do to fix these problems but, in the meantime, please go to the PDF version.

Download my book for free! Read it today!

The first volume of my semi-autobiographical novel "How I Came to Be" is now complete and can be downloaded for free from the Internet Archive in the following formats: PDF, EPUB, Kindle, Daisy, Full Text or DjVu. It is also possible to read it online at the archive without downloading.

The address for all of these choices is:  https://archive.org/details/HowICameToBe

Getting back to my novel...

For the past few years I've been struggling to write a novel. I fought my way through "creative block" to get a few chapters written, then went into a period of difficulty with it again. Now I'm back to writing thanks to some unusual techniques.

The original plan was to publish the first drafts on the web as I wrote them and allow people to follow the process of knocking the thing into shape and eventually rewriting it into a finished book.

In the current revision there's a new chapter order so I'm posting here links to the first few chapters in their current sequence: Chapters 1, 1A, 2, 2A, 3, 3A.

Exeter Retirement Village/Crematorium

There's a large crematorium in Exeter. I noticed recently that a large "Retirement Village" is being built on the land next door to and adjoining the crematorium land. This is so sickening and blatant. They'll be bringing them in in cattle trains next.

Can the Force Feel his Collar?

I just love the arrogance of this cover. An Egyptian God versus Scotland Yard. The God doesn't stand a chance! You're goin' down son!

Riffing on Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey

Youtube have allowed me to show longer videos again, which means that this space video I made last year is now available for public viewing. I'm very pleased because I put a lot of work into this movie.

The world situation, my life.

Well, thanks to the Russians we seem to be avoiding another war. Obama Care is (thank goodness) going ahead in spite of the childish tantrums of the Republicans and the American debts to the People's Republic of China are seemingly about to go into default. Greece has rounded up the ringleaders of its neo-Nazi group "Golden Dawn". What a strange place the world is. I used to be the only road sweeper in Exeter who had a university degree and then I couldn't get the road sweeping work any more. I had the feeling of being on the scrapheap. Too old to get road sweeping work in spite of a good education. Now I've been unemployed for three and a half years and George Osborne is planning to punish us long term unemployed by making us work for our benefit. The proposed punishment: picking up litter! Such irony to treat an old man as if he were an offender just because he can no longer get work picking up litter and then to suggest that the punishment should be: picking up litter! It's hilarious! I think really it's just a loophole to make people like me do the same work we wanted to do anyway but reduced to less than minimum wage.
